The verdict from my corner is that (500) Days of Summer may well be the best movie of the season. There's really something to be said for forcefully injecting a reality check into the standard romance movie formula, and, to be fair, there were definitely several points at which it could have easily exploded and gone wrong, but it worked through them quite wonderfully and upended my expectations. Too many comedies recently have been lacking in the human element; it's nice to see one that remembers the fact that there's something funnier than fart jokes, sex puns, physical humor, and Seth Rogen, Will Ferrell, Adam Sandler, or some other guy making an ass of himself.

[Luke, Eggo, Raleigh; Rafe and Davin very pointedly excluded.] Rafe has a stash. Not just any stash, either, but very easily the biggest collection of drugs I've ever seen in my life. I'm going over to the hospital to talk to him about this, and I'm preparing to get rid of all of them. Eggo, don't go in his room and/or touch them until I get home. Ideally, he's going to admit that this wasn't a one-time, accidental OD and that he has a problem and agree to get help. If that doesn't happen, we'll need a new strategy, and, if it comes to it, all of you could need to get involved in an intervention.
If anyone tells Davin before I talk to Rafe, I'm not going to be happy about it. [/LERA]
[Luke] You know Davin better than I do. How well do you think he can handle being there for a boyfriend/fuck-buddy/whatever they are whose substance abuse problem is this bad? [/Luke]
